None of it was really coming together. Then, a child was born.
I got a text from my friends that it was happening, their baby was on the way, they were en-route to the hospital, a couple of weeks ahead of schedule. Updates continued to trickle in as I went back to work. And a path opened up. Babies, as has been well documented, have a way of giving adults a sense of purpose. Welcome, APB. Thanks for the lift. I confess I'm out of touch with what kind of ambient music infants are into these days, but hope you like it.
Tracks 1 and 3 are compositions built around a number of single-take improvisations on acoustic guitar and low whistle, twisted and stretched into abstract shapes and tones.
Track 2 is a manipulated field recording captured on 12/18/17 at Christ Episcopal Church in Charlottesville, VA.
For most people, holiday music has a hard expiration date. For others, the concept of holiday music is just too loaded to connect with. Or maybe you just need to get out of your head about writing songs with words for a bit and learn to trust sounds again.
Wherever you're coming from, the hope is that you'll be able to make use of these pieces to access a bit of the warmth usually associated with holiday music throughout the rest of the cold months.
"Vol. 1" because I hope to do this again. With friends next time.
